Virginia Tech's alumni, friends, parents, faculty, and staff make annual gifts to the university that support our mission of discovering and sharing knowledge. These gifts fund scholarships, enhancements to campus, laboratory equipment, recreational activities, and other initiatives and programs. By advancing our institution in all areas, philanthropy makes it possible not only to instruct and enlighten our students, but to inspire them to make a positive impact on the world. Below are a few examples of how annual gifts fuel progress at Virginia Tech.

An extraordinary environment for education

Donations help secure a dynamic, world-class faculty, support innovative programs that prepare individuals to excel in a complex and changing environment, and create an extraordinary educational environment that emphasizes active learning.

Personal growth and global partnerships

Philanthropy fuels progress. Programs supported by donors touch lives on campus, throughout the nation, and around the world. Virginia Tech is committed to creating, conveying, and applying knowledge to expand personal growth, advance community development, and improve the quality of life. Gifts support initiatives that offer valuable educational experiences, enrich professional opportunities, and create unique partnerships within a global community.

A combined impact of tremendous power

Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. When combined, the impact is almost immeasurable. Your gift to Virginia Tech creates a legacy of opportunity, provides for educational excellence, and helps invent the future.

Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) … these words embody the founding principles and spirit of the Virginia Tech community. The strong levels of service, support, and participation we receive each year from our loyal contributors provides a solid foundation for Virginia Tech—one we can build on with confidence as we move into the future.

Annual gifts of any size from our alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends are essential ingredients in supporting Virginia Tech’s mission of the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge; enriching the lives of our students and faculty through scholarships, campus enhancements, lab equipment, recreational activities, and countless other areas.

Virginia Tech ranked 27th among national public universities in U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2015." Virginia Tech has also been recognized as being an excellent value in higher education and for making an impact on communities around the globe with our research.

Advanced Degree Fund

The quality graduate-level education available at Virginia Tech would not be possible without the efforts of a large and committed community. This community includes students, faculty, staff, and administrators, but it also includes Virginia Tech’s friends and alumni whose generous financial support helps make so many things possible.

You can join this distinguished group of individuals by contributing to the Virginia Tech Advanced Degree Fund. Your gift to the fund will be equally divided between your academic college and the graduate school, ensuring that all of Virginia Tech’s graduate programs will continue to excel.

The Advanced Degree Fund helps to provide financial resources for attracting and retaining the best graduate students available. Many students benefit from scholarships and fellowships and our faculty benefit from donor support of research and facilities. Furthermore, private support makes it possible to recruit and retain the elite faculty members that are vital to the educational experience at Virginia Tech.

College Annual Fund

The College Annual Fund provides an opportunity to make a gift directly to each of Virginia Tech's nine colleges and many university programs. Donors may choose to make an unrestricted gift within a college that will allow it the flexibility to fund exciting new initiatives as they arise, or they may make a gift directly to a particular program or department within a college.

Regardless of how gifts are designated, alumni and friends can be assured that all gifts directly benefit today's students and will impact new generations of Virginia Tech students for years to come.

Annual Career Outfitters event put on by Career and Professional Development at the Smith Career Center. Students are able to shop for donated gently-used professional clothing and also get help with sizing and assembling outfits. This year the family of the late T. Marshall Hahn, former president of Virginia Tech, donated his wardrobe so it may be that some students will be attending job interviews in the late president's suits.

You can help

You can help by making a gift to the area you feel is most appropriate:

  • VTCC Immediate Needs supports the operating expenses of the VTCC alumni scholarship program, various leadership development programs, and our alumni operations.
  • Emerging Leader Scholarship Program (ELS) is the most effective recruiting tool the corps has with which to attract and maintain quality cadet-students. The ELS, which is VTCC's number one fundraising priority, provides a four-year stipend to approximately 200 new cadets entering the corps each year.
